"Dandelion" was inspired by a story I heard about my great-great grandmother and a picture my mother showed me of her. When my grandmother had past my mother took out old photos and began telling stories and who they were, but one particular photo stood out to me. It was a photo of this very dainty woman with a stern look about her, standing over her family in a certain stance with her arm hanging over her husband in a very confident manner. She stood in a way that you wouldn't normally see women presented in those days, very strong and bold. My mother goes on to tell me her story, that one night she was home alone with her babies and a man attempts to break into their home she grabs a shot gun and shoots and kills this man. This story just had me thinking not only about my great-great grandmother but both my grandmothers and their mothers before them and how hard it must have been during these pioneering days to just live the day-to-day especially for women.
